Start of school year

All preps in Victoria have a staggered start to the school year.

The first five days of the school year are devoted to one-on-one 50-minute assessment with the prep teachers. This involves a 40-minute literacy assessment and a 10-minute meeting with the parents or guardians, to answer questions and discuss any areas of concern. Times and dates for each child's assessment are communicated to the families well in advance.
Once the assessments are completed, preps are split into two groups, with each group attending one of two full school days. The start and finish times on each day are staggered, to offer each student some one-on-one time with their teacher on their first full day of school.
Following the two staggered start days, preps began attending as a full class and on the same schedule as the rest of the school.

Prep families are provided with detailed and extensive information about life at Greenhills, including a parent handbook that covers topics such as getting ready for school, supporting your child's learning at home and communication channels between home and school.
School Buddies

All Greenhills preps participate in a School Buddies program.

As part of the program, each prep is matched with a senior student, who becomes their 'buddy' for the rest of the school year.

Initially, senior buddies orient the preps around the school, help them make new friends, answer questions and generally make the junior buddies feel safe and happy when outside their classroom.

Throughout the school year, the buddies have various touchpoints and work together on different school activities.
